Luis Caloca

Board Member

Luis was born in Nampa and raised in the fields of the Treasure Valley. Most seasons, he weeded and topped onions, picked jalapeños, pruned fruit trees, and harvested potatoes. This experience motivated him to work his way out of the fields and into the classroom at Boise State University. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree, he worked for five years before returning to his alma mater for a master’s degree. He highly values education and as such has made helping others obtain a higher education his career.

He started his career in higher education at Boise State University in November 2003. He was privileged to join College of Western Idaho (CWI) in July 2008 as part of the founding team before the institution had students. Currently, he oversees Admissions and One Stop Student Services. He is a member of the Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling, National Association for College Admission Counseling and Idaho Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers where he served as President in 2012. He is also proud to serve as CWI’s representative with the Idaho Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Luis is an active member of the community. He formerly served as a board member in the Idaho Latino Scholarship Foundation and Idaho Leadership Institute. He currently serves as the State Advisor for the Future Hispanic Leaders of America, a high school organization he co-founded in 1997. He also serves as an advisory board member in the University of Idaho President’s Latino Advisory Council and as a board member for the Nampa Schools Foundation.

During his time away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family, gaming, experiencing Nampa’s growing downtown, and going to the bailes.
